Header and footer content mark changes for Microsoft Purview Information Protection in Word

Header and footer content mark changes for Microsoft Purview Information Protection in Word

The article discusses the changes Microsoft Purview Information Protection (MIP) is making to header and footer content markings in Word. The changes aim to align the behavior of MIP content markings with that of Azure Information Protection (AIP) plugin for Office apps by inserting header and footer content with the “in front of text” configuration. This change will start rolling out on November 1st and will affect Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, and Web versions of Microsoft Office.

This change will impact users who apply sensitivity labels with content markings to their documents. Content markings applied in clients without the update will still implement old behavior even when viewed in updated applications. Users may notice that content markings applied by labels render differently when this change is implemented, leading to overlaps with existing headers or footers in documents. However, users can test the new behavior by applying sensitivity labels with content marking elements using the Office apps Beta channel starting October 11, 2022.

The post also advises users to make any necessary adjustments to label properties in the admin center and modify the font size and color for better visibility of content markings. Overall, these changes aim to improve the behavior of MIP content markings in Word and provide a better user experience.
