Microsoft Purview Information Protection: Office Apps on the Web can create PDFs that inherit the source files sensitivity labels

Microsoft has recently announced that PDF files created from Word, Excel, and PowerPoint will inherit sensitivity labels from their source files in Office for the Web, provided the labels are unencrypted. This feature has been released under the Microsoft Information Protection product and is currently in the General Availability phase. It has been made available on the Cloud Instance DoD and GCC High. The release date for this feature is set for August CY2023.

This new change simplifies the process of creating PDFs while retaining the sensitivity labels of the original source file. This is especially useful for organizations that deal with sensitive data and require label protection. With the new functionality, users can easily create protected PDF files without worrying about losing the sensitivity labels.

To summarize, Microsoft has enabled the inheritance of sensitivity labels from source files to PDF files created from Word, Excel, and PowerPoint in Office for the Web, providing users an easy way to streamline the protection of sensitive information.
