Improved OneDrive experience in Apple Files app

OneDrive’s integration with the Apple Files app on iOS will improve upload status visibility. Read-only shared OneDrive and SharePoint locations will no longer appear in Apple Files but remain accessible via the OneDrive app. Users can use “Add to OneDrive” to access and edit content in Apple Files. Rollout: mid-August to mid-September 2026. No admin action required. What and Why: We’re improving the OneDrive integration with the Apple Files app on iOS to provide a more reliable file experience, including clearer upload status and progress indicators. As part of this update, OneDrive Shared and SharePoint Libraries locations that users can access only with read-only permissions will no longer appear in the Apple Files app. Users will continue to have access to this content through the OneDrive mobile app. Users who want to access shared content and libraries in the Apple Files app can use Add to OneDrive. Content added to OneDrive will continue to appear in the Apple Files app and can be edited when users have the appropriate permissions. Rollout Schedule: General Availability (Worldwide): Rollout will begin in mid-August 2026 and is expected to complete by mid-September 2026. Impact on Your Organization: Who is affected Users who access OneDrive shared content or SharePoint libraries through the Apple Files app on iOS devices. Platforms and Services OneDrive for iOS Apple Files app on iOS SharePoint Online libraries What will happen Read-only shared locations and library locations will no longer appear in the Apple Files app. Users will continue to be able to access this content in the OneDrive mobile app. Users can use Add to OneDrive to continue accessing shared content and libraries from the Apple Files app. Content added to OneDrive will remain available through the Apple Files app. Users with the required permissions will continue to be able to edit content added to OneDrive. Action Required / Recommendations: No admin action is required.
