Microsoft Purview Information Protection: Require sensitivity label to restrict permissions
Microsoft is transitioning users from the old protection mechanisms to the modern sensitivity labeling experience for Microsoft Information Protection (MIP). As a result, users will no longer be able to apply IRM protection to new or existing documents but instead be directed to apply MIP labels. The rollout for preview and standard release will occur in late July to mid-August and mid-August to early September, respectively as stated in Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 109532. Users who require old IRM protection mechanisms with access to MIP need to transition towards MIP labels or request a registry key capable of reverting to the old behavior.
