Microsoft OneDrive: We will remove the “EnableHoldTheFile” group policy

Microsoft OneDrive is preparing to remove the "EnableHoldTheFile" Group Policy from its service, starting from early April 2025. Users will be able to choose how to handle file conflicts in Word, Excel and PowerPoint without requiring any administrative action before the rollout. OneDrive's automatic creation of a copy of the file in conflict will no longer occur and instead, users will have the option to choose the file variation to keep in case of a conflict that requires user input to resolve. The EnableHoldTheFile group policy will be removed, and the experience the policy provided will be enabled for all tenants. You don't need to take any admin action before the rollout, which is expected to complete by late April 2025. It is recommended that administrators review their current configuration to determine the impact of this change on their organization and notify users of this upcoming change.
