Microsoft Teams: Group Policy Assignment Rank Assistance
This post talks about how admins can use policies to control various features of Microsoft Teams available to users within an organization. To accommodate different user needs, Teams offers group policy assignment that enables admins to assign custom policies to user groups.
The Group Policy Assignment Rank Assistance feature is set to roll out in August 2023 and will aid admins by providing useful information such as group user count, recommendation to give rank 1, and precedence rules in the side panel while creating new group assignments. It will help admins make better decisions while managing policies for their user groups by bringing more clarity.
It is important to note that when you create a new group assignment with the recommended rank 1, all other existing group assignments will shift rank by 1. However, this will have no impact on the effective policy of the users in other group assignment but the newly created one only if there are overlapping users.
If you're an admin looking to prepare for this feature, it is recommended to review how policy assignments for users and groups work and understand the policy precedence rules. To access this information, admins can log in to the Microsoft Teams admin center and go to any policy type, such as "Messaging policies," and navigate to the "Group policy assignment" tab. From there, they can create a new group assignment and find the necessary information in the group assignment side panel.
Overall, this feature aims to facilitate policy management for admins and ensure that Microsoft Teams is utilized effectively within an organization.
