Group Policy Assignment Support to Additional Policy Types in Microsoft Teams admin center

Microsoft Teams admin center is expanding its group policy assignment support to include additional policy types. The update allows admins to assign custom policies for different policy types to user groups via the Microsoft 365 admin center or already existing groups in the Teams admin center. This feature facilitates customization of policies for specific needs and ensures that they are applied through group membership rather than manual user selection or global policies. The Caller ID policy, Dial plans, and Teams update policy will be available in mid-May 2023 for all Microsoft Teams commercial licenses, while other policies will be available in early-June 2023. Microsoft 365 groups, distribution lists, mail-enabled security groups, and security groups are all supported for group policy assignment. In addition, the maximum number of groups per policy has been increased from 64. To take advantage of this feature, admins can check the new Group policy assignment tab in the Microsoft Teams admin center, review the policy assignment process, user precedence rules, and clean up direct assignments to allow group policy assignments to take effect.
