Product transitions to the cloud.microsoft domain – November 2024

This post is a heads-up for organizations that Microsoft products are moving to the cloud.microsoft domain by November 2024 for hosting SaaS products. The cloud.microsoft domain was created in early 2023 to host Microsoft's first-party authenticated SaaS products and experiences and offers a unified, dedicated, and trusted DNS domain space. Microsoft Outlook is among the services that are available on this domain, with previous domains expected to redirect to the cloud.microsoft domain soon.

Organizations should educate users and update in-house apps to ensure compatibility. Microsoft network guidance on domains and service endpoints already includes the cloud.microsoft domain. Users will be gradually and automatically redirected to applications under the new domain, and links to the previous domains remain supported but gradually being phased out.

To prepare for this transition, it is advisable to educate users to recognize the cloud.microsoft domain as a key domain for Microsoft cloud experiences. If necessary, organizations should review their in-house apps to ensure compatibility and update their organizational materials that reference the old URL to avoid inconveniencing users.
