Microsoft Purview: Message Encryption portal transitioning to the “.microsoft” domain by the end of 2024
The Microsoft Purview Message Encryption portal is moving to the “.microsoft” domain by the end of 2024, with no specific user action required. Users will be redirected to the new domain automatically, but organizations should ensure that the new domain is not blocked and make necessary references updates. Microsoft has provisioned the cloud.microsoft domain to provide a unified, trusted, and dedicated DNS domain space to host SaaS products and experiences, and as part of this rollout, selected Microsoft products and scenarios will transition to a similar static.microsoft domain. To align with Purview branding and the domain change, the portal's design will be adjusted in terms of fonts, colors, controls and more. The Microsoft Purview Message Encryption portal enables access to encrypted messages sent from an organization’s users to external recipients. This change will be on by default, and backward compatibility will be supported for links to previous domains. Additionally, users may notice that the new application domains are lacking the .com extension, which is by design and provides additional security and protection against spoofing. To prepare, organizations must educate their users to recognize and expect static.microsoft as a key domain for Microsoft cloud experiences.
The full list of products and scenarios already delivered on the static.microsoft domain for Microsoft 365 can be viewed at Unified cloud.microsoft Domain for Microsoft 365 apps - Microsoft 365 Enterprise | Microsoft Learn.
