Product transitions to the cloud.microsoft domain – October 2024
In October 2024, Microsoft products are transitioning to the cloud.microsoft domain. Although services are already active on the new domain, previous domains will be redirected soon. The transition should not impact users following Microsoft's network guidance since April 2023, but users and admins need to be aware of and prepared for the shift. The cloud.microsoft domain was introduced in early 2023 as a unified, trusted, and devoted DNS domain space to hold Microsoft's first-party authorized SaaS products and experiences. Admins should note that several Microsoft products and scenarios are now available at the cloud.microsoft domain. Previous domains will be redirected to cloud.microsoft in the coming months. Users will be automatically directed to applications under cloud.microsoft domains without having to take any specific action. The new application domains lack the ".com" extension, but this is due to Microsoft's exclusive top-level domain choice, which provides additional security and protection against spoofing. Admins should educate users about cloud.microsoft as a key domain for Microsoft cloud experiences and update any organizational websites, tools, or other materials referencing the old URL.
