SharePoint: Optical Character Recognition now supports hybrid PDFs (text and image)
SharePoint's OCR feature now empowers users to extract and utilize text from hybrid PDFs, documents that contain both images and text. This update marks a significant expansion of OCR capability, as it was formerly limited to image-only PDFs. If you're working with hybrid PDFs, SharePoint's OCR feature ensures that you can extract the text you need with ease.
The OCR feature update is available under the General Availability Release phase, and it was released on October CY2024. The feature supports SharePoint's Web Cloud Instance, which is a worldwide standard multi-tenant platform. More information about the feature and its development can be found in the associated roadmap ID 419808.
So if you're looking to work with files containing both images and text in a SharePoint environment, you can now leverage OCR to extract the text you require, thus extending the possibilities for how you use data and information.
