Microsoft Purview compliance portal: Data Loss Prevention for endpoints – Optical character recognition (OCR) support for embedded images in endpoint

Microsoft Purview, in its latest release, will now support Optical Character Recognition (OCR) for embedded images in Office files (XLSX, DOCX, PPTX), container files (zip, rar, 7z, and more), and PDF files. The OCR support was previously limited to standalone images such as JPEG, JPG, PNG, BMP, TIFF, and PDF. With this new update, hybrid PDF files containing images and searchable text will now be supported. This feature is now in preview release and is targeted for worldwide availability in June 2024 for the cloud-based platform. This will enhance Data Loss Prevention for endpoints, adding to Purview's capabilities as a compliance portal.
