Microsoft Purview compliance portal: Object Character Recognition (OCR) support for embedded images in Exchange Online and Microsoft Teams

Microsoft's Purview compliance portal now offers Object Character Recognition (OCR) support for images embedded in Exchange Online and Microsoft Teams. Prior to this update, OCR was only supported for standalone images. With this update, OCR is now available for hybrid PDF files that have both searchable text and images, as well as Office files like DOCX, PPTX, and XLSX. Additionally, container files such as zip, rar, and 7z are now supported. This update is currently in the Preview Release phase and is set to be released in May CY2024. The platform for this release is web-based and cloud-based and it will be available worldwide on a Standard Multi-Tenant instance.
