Microsoft Purview compliance portal: Blanket custom retention policies which apply to all Audit recordTypes
Microsoft Purview is introducing a new feature to enhance the Audit custom retention policy experience, making it easier for customers to change the default retention policy for all their Audit logs. Customers can now create blanket custom retention policies that apply to all Audit recordTypes. Previously, customers had to manually select specific recordTypes in a custom policy, which did not include any new recordTypes added to the Audit log in the future.
With this new feature, security admins can now apply a default retention policy to all Audit recordTypes, making it a lot easier for admins to manage a custom retention policy. This feature will be rolled out in mid-June 2024 and is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 395215. It will be available for public preview in mid-June 2024 and is expected to be generally available in mid-July 2024.
To apply these new custom retention policies to all recordType logs, an admin can select "All" under the recordTypes field to apply the custom retention policy to both existing and future recordTypes. For more information, please visit Microsoft Learn's manage audit log retention policies page.
