Microsoft Purview Data Lifecycle and Records Management: Simulation mode for retention labels

Microsoft is introducing "simulation mode" in its Purview Data Lifecycle Management and Purview Records Management applications to provide auto-labelling policies for retention labels. This feature allows compliance administrators to test retention auto-labelling policy configurations by identifying an organization’s content that could be matched by the policy. The preview rollout of simulation mode will start in late February and is expected to be complete by the end of March. The simulation of a policy can take just a few hours, depending on the amount of data analyzed. At this stage, simulation mode will only work with policies that apply labels when content contains sensitive information or based on content's properties or metadata using KQL queries. To preview simulation mode, administrators must select the 'Test the policy before running it' option when choosing to create a new auto-labelling policy.

If your organization does not currently apply content classification using machine learning trainable classifiers, you do not need to prepare anything to leverage this feature.
