Power BI Azure Maps Visual: Enhanced Reference Layer & Embedded Support

Power BI Azure Maps Visual: Enhanced Reference Layer & Embedded Support

The Power BI Azure Maps visual has received a major update which includes an expansion of the reference layer and the addition of Power BI Embedded support. The update includes significant improvements to the reference layer, allowing users to incorporate data in KML, WKT, SHP, and GeoJSON formats. The URL option has also been introduced as an additional data source, complementing the traditional file upload method. This means that the Power BI Azure Maps visual can now integrate a diverse range of formats, providing users with a robust and dynamic geospatial analysis toolkit.

Another enhancement to the Power BI Azure Maps visual is the expansion of the availability of Power BI Embedded, making it more accessible. The Azure Maps Power BI visual is now available on a range of platforms including Power BI Desktop, Power BI service, Power BI mobile applications, Power BI service embedding, and Power BI Embedded. However, the "publish to web" option is still in development.

Data residency and privacy are critical for enterprise clients, which is why the Azure Maps visual has seen significant improvements in this area. The visual automatically connects to the most appropriate geographic endpoints based on the user's Power BI tenant location, ensuring strict adherence to data residency regulations. Overall, the Power BI Azure Maps visual now offers more flexible and accessible geospatial analysis capabilities to users.
