Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention: Detecting password protected PDF files in DLP for Exchange

Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention: Detecting password protected PDF files in DLP for Exchange

Microsoft Purview has introduced a new feature to its Data Loss Prevention policy which now supports the detection of Exchange email attachments that are password protected, including PDF files. The new policy condition called “Attachment is password protected” extends the support of detecting password-protected Office and zip file types. The extension of support will begin rolling out in early March and is expected to be complete by mid-April. If you have an existing DLP policy for detecting password-protected documents, it will automatically start applying to password-protected PDF documents as well. You do not need to make any changes to your existing policies. This feature is designed to help organizations protect their sensitive data by ensuring that password-protected PDF files are flagged as password protected and DLP will protect the file.

So, if you’re a user of Microsoft Purview’s Data Loss Prevention policy, you can rest easy knowing that your sensitive data is further protected with this new feature.
