Microsoft Purview compliance portal: Data Loss Prevention for endpoints – Optical Character Recognition (OCR) on Mac Endpoints

The latest update on the Microsoft Purview compliance portal introduces a new feature that addresses the limitations in content scanning on Mac endpoint devices. Specifically, OCR (Optical Character Recognition) support will be added to enable the detection of sensitive content in images, thereby helping to protect such content through relevant policies.

With this development, policies like Data loss prevention (DLP) and auto-labelling will be able to identify sensitive contents in not only most textual files but also images, thus expanding the scope of protection for users who frequently work with graphical content. The product release is slated for General Availability Release in May CY2024 on a Worldwide (Standard Multi-Tenant) platform as specified in the roadmap. This update is set to introduce a range of enhancements to the platform, thereby empowering users with a more robust suite of features.
