Microsoft Teams control messages are system-generated artifacts that capture information about actions taken in Teams, such as adding or removing a user from a chat, and are displayed as system messages in the Teams client. Microsoft has announced an improvement to its retention policies for Teams by supporting the retention and deletion of more types of Teams control messages ("Phase 2"). The additional types of control messages include changes in chat, Team and channel descriptions, renaming channels, adding channels, updating member roles and sharing channels with a team. This change will take place automatically, and no configuration changes or actions are required to enable this update. It will begin rolling out in mid-November and complete in early December, and the governed rules specified in the Teams user chat and Teams channel messages retention policies will apply to these types of Teams control messages. If you're responsible for data lifecycle management in your organization, it may be worthwhile communicating this change to your team. For more information, see the link provided.
