Microsoft Purview Information Protection: User-defined permissions support domain name restrictions

Microsoft is introducing an update in public preview and general availability for custom permissions or user-defined permissions in Microsoft 365. This update will support domain name restrictions. When a sensitivity label configured for user-defined permissions is chosen in Microsoft Office files, domain names can now be used to restrict file access to specific individuals or to all individuals from that domain. This feature is expected to roll out to the public preview in mid-October and to general availability in early November. Organizations that have previously configured user-defined permissions do not need to take any further action to enable this feature. Manage and configure sensitivity labels in the Microsoft Purview compliance portal to enable this feature.

For more information, you can check out the Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 98131 and learn more about how to let users assign permissions and support for organization-wide custom permissions.
