Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint: Protect sensitive files with dynamic watermarking

Microsoft has introduced a new sensitivity label setting called "dynamic watermarking" in its Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications to embed users' information onto files for added security. The feature will be available on various platforms, with a Public Preview in July 2024 and General Availability in November 2024. This new setting adds watermark text containing the user's information onto content in files, making it easier to track files that might have been accessed by unauthorized individuals. This feature is off by default, and admins must configure it before it is accessible to users. Sensitivity labels from Microsoft Purview Information Protection help classify and protect organizational data. The rollout is expected to happen automatically, and users don't need to take any admin action. Overall, this new feature enhances the security of sensitive files, bringing greater control and visibility to users in handling their files.
