New Teams rollout schedule for Commercial and EDU customers

New Teams rollout schedule for Commercial and EDU customers

A new rollout schedule for the latest version of Teams for commercial and education customers has been released. The updated Teams is now available for all customers and is being enabled in stages. Teams Admin Center policy controls will remain available until the end of March 2024, after which they will only apply to VDI users if relevant. Microsoft has received feedback and if unable to update to new Teams by the end of March, users will be allowed to remain on classic Teams until it's no longer available. It is recommended to update your organization to the new Teams version as soon as possible as all future feature development will only be available in the new Teams. Microsoft-controlled rollout is also an option and a new usage report has been released in Teams Admin Center to show usage of classic Teams vs. new Teams within a tenant. If the policy is set to Microsoft-controlled, Microsoft will continue to roll out new Teams on behalf of the organization. The final rollout stage for this option will begin from early April 2024, where all remaining classic Teams users will be updated to the new Teams and the toggle switch will be removed thereafter. After attempting to uninstall classic Teams, Microsoft will give a small delay of 14 days and if the uninstall is blocked for any reason, organizations will need to remove classic Teams themselves.
