End of Support and Availability for Classic Teams | Important Timelines

End of Support and Availability for Classic Teams | Important Timelines

Classic Teams clients will no longer be supported after July 1, 2024, and their availability will end on July 1, 2025. To prepare for this transition, users should update their OS and resolve any installation issues. The non-dismissible in-app dialogs will start to appear post-availability end, and informational banners will begin displaying from April 2024. This update discusses the end of support and end of availability plans for classic Teams clients. Note that the end of availability for classic Teams clients on Win 7, 8, 8.1 and Mac OS 10.12 is October 23, 2024. These dates are not applicable to the US Government Cloud customers, VDI environments, Microsoft Teams Room devices (MTR), and Surface Hub devices (SHUB), and a separate post will be provided. Prepare for the changes by ensuring you have updated your OS and addressed any installation issues.

Classic Teams will be unsupported from July 1, 2024, following which users running the client will experience in-app dialog messages warning them that the client is no longer supported. Beginning July 1, 2025, the classic Teams desktop app will be blocked for all users. Users will have the option to use the new Teams web application on supported browsers as an alternative. Classic Teams desktop app on Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and Mac OS Sierra (10.12) will reach end of availability on October 23, 2024. Users on these operating systems will experience non-dismissible in-app dialogs alerting them about end of availability, with the option to use the new Teams web app on supported browsers. For further information, please refer to the End of availability for classic Teams client. Keep in mind the end of support and end of availability dates to prepare in advance for these changes.
