Microsoft Teams: Creating an avatar from a photo will soon be GA

Microsoft Teams is adding a new feature that allows users to create custom avatars by uploading a photo. The feature is set to roll out worldwide in mid to late November 2024. Once users set up an avatar, they can use it in Teams meetings and Mesh immersive spaces. The feature requires Teams 2.1 and is available in Teams for Windows desktops and Mac desktops. However, it is not currently supported in immersive spaces or the Mesh standalone app. To use this feature, tenants must have a license for Teams Enterprise, Teams Essentials, or one of several Microsoft 365 plans.

The minimum hardware specifications to use avatars in Teams meetings are a dual-core processor and 6GB of RAM, with a quad-core processor and 8GB of RAM recommended for the best experience. Users will be able to create up to three avatars, and once these slots are full, they must delete one to create a new avatar from a photo. Admins will be able to enable this feature by default. However, it is recommended that organizations review their current configurations and notify their users about the change.

Overall, this feature provides users with more options to personalize their Teams experience, allowing them to create avatars that better represent them in meetings and immersive spaces.
