New Microsoft Outlook for web and Windows: Organize and reorder folders

The new Microsoft Outlook for web and Windows is set to revolutionize the way folders are organized. Users will now be able to import their custom folder orders from classic Outlook to the new Outlook for Windows and web, with the option to preserve special folders at the top. The new Outlook ribbon also offers ways to reorder folders. This feature will roll out gradually starting October 2024, with different completion dates for various releases. No admin action will be required before the rollout.

For those who haven't customized their folder order yet, the default view will show folders alphabetically. However, those who have enabled custom folder orders in classic Outlook will find that their custom order is preserved in the new Outlook, including the special folders. This change will be turned on by default, but users will also have the option to organize their folders alphabetically or in a custom order. All of these can be accessed through the new Outlook ribbon under View -> Layout -> Folder pane.

These new improvements to Outlook's folder organization system are aimed at improving user experience and making it more intuitive for people to find the folders and emails they need. This feature is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 378775 and will roll out gradually through different releases for various regions.
