Change in attachment links in Viva Engage messages to SharePoint location for eDiscovery

In an effort to better integrate with eDiscovery, Viva Engage messages will now have attachment links changed to SharePoint locations. This update, set to start in late June 2024 and end by mid-July 2024, will improve reliability and allow attachments to appear with messages in eDiscovery review sets. This aligns with other products and significantly improves eDiscovery for organizations using it. This change will replace the link to attachments from Engage to the SharePoint location of the attachment in the Engage message, making it easier to accurately map and find attachments that correspond with conversations. It is important for organizations using eDiscovery to update their documentation and training in preparation for this change.

Currently, when Viva Engage messages are ingested in eDiscovery, they don't display attachments alongside the messages in the eDiscovery collection. However, the new solution will replace the link to the attachment from Engage to the SharePoint location of the attachment in the Engage message, ensuring all attachments appear with messages in eDiscovery review sets. This will begin rolling out in late June 2024 and expected to complete by mid-July 2024.

If your tenant uses eDiscovery in Microsoft Purview for Viva Engage, then the change impacts you. The current link ingested points to the snapshot of the attachment as stored in Engage backend, and with the update, the link will open the attachment from its SharePoint location. It is important to note that documentation and training should be updated in preparation for this change.
