eDiscovery (Premium) Records Management – Discover the document version that has been shared (GA)

Do you struggle to efficiently meet regulatory obligations for retention and eDiscovery of shared content in your organization? Well, worry no more because eDiscovery (Premium) now supports discovering the version of the document at the time it was shared, as part of its new Records Management capability. This feature enables automatic application of retention labels and retention of the version of files shared as cloud attachments in email via Exchange and chat via Teams. What's more, file versions shared as hyperlinks within email or Teams messages are also supported. This capability is available in public preview as (MC394835), with general release set for the end of May. By enabling you to discover the version of the file at the time it was shared, eDiscovery helps ensure that the relevant version of the file is available for eDiscovery processes.

Information workers in organizations will now benefit from quickly sharing cloud attachment files for visibility and collaboration, while eDiscovery and legal professionals tasked with preserving and discovering that content can rest assured that the relevant file version will be available. To take advantage of this feature, create a retention auto-labeling policy within the Microsoft Purview compliance portal's Records Management solution. This update enables eDiscovery (Premium) collections to provide the current live version of the document as well as the version of the document at the time it was shared.
