Microsoft Word: Researcher feature will retire starting late December 2024
Microsoft has announced that the Researcher feature in Microsoft Word will be retired starting from late December 2024, with full retirement expected by January 2025. This change will affect Word for Windows and Mac desktops, with no impact for Word for the web or Word for Android/iOS. Microsoft suggests that the alternative to Researcher is Copilot. Following the retirement of Researcher, it will not appear on the Word ribbon and will not be supported. Microsoft occasionally removes features to improve the Microsoft 365 subscription offerings. Users are advised to notify others of this change and update any relevant documentation.
So, users of the Researcher feature in Microsoft Word should start preparing for its upcoming retirement and begin switching to Copilot as an alternative. This will take place in late December 2024 and will be completed by early January 2025.
