Microsoft Word: The Acronyms feature will retire September 2024
Microsoft Word users take note! The Acronyms feature in Microsoft Word will no longer be available from September 11, 2024. This will affect Word for Windows and the web version. The company recommends alternative options such as Microsoft Search, SharePoint.com, Bing for Work, or Copilot in Word to decode acronyms. The Acronyms feature can be accessed from the References tab on the ribbon or from the Acronyms section in the Editor pane on the right of the screen. The retirement of this feature will be automatic and no admin action is needed.
As part of Microsoft's continued efforts to optimize Enterprise Office 365 subscription, while offering customers similar or improved options, the Acronyms feature has been marked for retirement. The company offers alternative solutions such as Microsoft Search in Office.com, in Sharepoint.com, and Bing for Work for decoding acronyms. The premium option, Copilot in Microsoft Word can also decode common acronyms used in business and worldwide scenarios.
If you are currently using the Acronyms feature in Word, it is recommended that you share these changes with your help desk team so that they can prepare alternative solutions for users. The retirement of this feature will take effect automatically without any action required on the part of administrators.
