Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365: Automatic summary of documents on file-open in Word

Microsoft is introducing a new feature called Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365, which will automatically generate document summaries in Word upon file opening. This feature, part of the Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 397096, is set to be globally available from late August to late September 2024 and will require no admin action for rollout. The summary will appear in a new UI between the canvas and the ribbon of Word when the document is opened and can be hidden if the user wishes. Users can also ask specific questions about the document using the Copilot chat pane. There is no action required from admins for the rollout, but they may need to notify users and update relevant documentation. This new feature aims to improve document accessibility and productivity and enhance the user experience.
