Improving access to health care from 7,000 miles away, with Michael Marin, MD
In this podcast, Gemma Milne interviews Dr. Michael Marin of the Mount Sinai Health System, discussing his efforts to develop a shared surgery model as part of a pilot program aimed at expanding the delivery of same-day surgery and surgical training. They cover a range of topics from the key technologies that make the program possible to the potential global impact of such programs, not just in medicine but in other industries as well.
Dr. Marin, who serves as the Chairman of the Department of Surgery and Surgeon-in-Chief for the Mount Sinai health system in New York City, is an active clinician, teacher, and contributor to medical literature. He has made a significant impact on modern vascular surgery and contributed to the rapid development of new treatments with other physicians worldwide for minimally invasive treatment of vascular disease.
The podcast covers both the challenges and benefits faced in improving access to healthcare at a global level. Dr. Marin gives advice on implementing similar programs and suggests that other programs can learn from their experience. They also discuss expanding the same-day surgery program to other types of surgery.
The podcast is sponsored by Microsoft Dynamics 365 Remote Assist, which allows field personnel to collaborate with experts in a mixed reality environment from virtually anywhere to solve problems in real-time. Contact information and social media links were also provided.
