Suppressing Authenticator Notifications from Risky Sources

Suppressing Authenticator Notifications from Risky Sources

This post delves into a proposed approach to improve the authentication process by suppressing authenticator notifications for login requests originating from unfamiliar locations. This method entails utilizing an intelligent system capable of identifying risky sources such as unknown IP addresses to differentiate between potential malicious attempts and legitimate login requests. Note that suppressing of notifications applies to both Phone-Sign in and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) notifications. However, authentication requests from unfamiliar locations will not be blocked, but users can still access them via the Authenticator app. This approach is currently being rolled out, and it will only intervene when it detects login attempts from unrecognized or unfamiliar sources. The implementation of this approach will be silently rolled out to users, and they will not be explicitly notified about this change.

As a user, no action is required from you to prepare for this change.
