If you're an Office insider looking to test drive the new Outlook for Windows, the wait is over. With feedback from insiders in both Beta and Preview channels, Microsoft has rolled out an option for all users in the Current Channel to toggle between the classic Outlook for Windows and the new version.
The new Outlook for Windows features a more modern look and feel, with a range of productivity-enhancing improvements. To try it out, all you need to do is click on the toggle button in the upper right-hand corner of your screen. This change will take effect in early April and will be complete by late April.
According to Microsoft, the new version is a preview experience with default settings off, and users can submit feedback about any missing capabilities. While the new app currently only supports Microsoft Exchange Online and personal Microsoft accounts, additional account support will be added in the future. It's worth noting that any conditional access policies configured for Office will also apply to the new Outlook, as will any mailbox policies configured for Outlook on the Web.
To prepare for the new experience, Microsoft recommends reviewing any remaining COM/VSTO add-ins used by your organization and moving to web add-ins, as COM/VSTO add-ins will not be supported in the new app. Otherwise, no actions are required. If you're not ready to test the new version yet, you can hide the toggle using a registry key. All the information and instructions for installing can be found in the documentation.
So if you're ready to take the new Outlook for Windows for a spin, click on the toggle and explore the new features and improvements designed to help you stay productive and organized.
