Stream (Classic) retires on April 15, 2024, and all unmigrated videos will be deleted

Microsoft has announced that Stream (Classic) will be retired on April 15, 2024, and that all videos stored in the service will be deleted after this date. Admins can delay the change until the retirement date but must migrate their tenant’s Stream (Classic) data to Stream (on SharePoint) to prevent data loss. Stream (Classic) has already been auto disabled for end users. GCC customers have a different retirement timeline. The successor service, Stream (on SharePoint), entered general availability in October 2022 and allows users to record and play videos directly in many everyday work and school apps, such as Teams, Office.com, Yammer, Viva, PowerPoint, and SharePoint. To support migration to Stream (on SharePoint), Microsoft has created migration tools to transfer videos with metadata, links, and permissions. Admins are recommended to direct users to upload videos to SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, and Yammer and put a migration plan in place.
Overall, organizations should begin taking action to migrate their content and take advantage of the capabilities of Stream (on SharePoint) before the retirement of Stream (Classic) on April 15, 2024, to prevent data loss.
