Stream migration tool public preview and general availability

In a bid to improve upon the existing Stream (Classic) platform, Microsoft has announced the Stream migration tool in public preview, which is expected to be generally available by early 2023. Designed to facilitate a smooth migration process for audio and video files to Stream (on SharePoint), the tool transfers the critical metadata and permissions associated with Stream (Classic) content while redirecting links and embeds of Stream (Classic) content to the same content on Stream (on SharePoint). The migration tool also generates reports to help decide which files need to be migrated.

Rolling out from early October to mid-October, the migration tool will be available in the Stream admin center for all customers worldwide. As per Microsoft, Stream (Classic) will be retired by or before early 2023, with the service running for a full year from the date of retirement announcement.

For easy access to the Stream migration tool, log into Stream admin center and select the "Stream migration (preview)" tab. From there, select the "Migration tool" option and head over to the "Reports" tab to download the CSV files needed to analyze your Stream (Classic) videos before migrating.

Businesses using Microsoft Stream will benefit significantly from this new tool and its features, making the migration process smooth and effective.
