Stream (Classic) Sets Retirement Date of Feb 15, 2024

Microsoft has announced that Stream (Classic) will be retired on February 15, 2024, while certain parts of the service will be retired sooner. End users will be unable to upload new videos on May 15, 2023, and will no longer have access to Stream (Classic) after October 15, 2023, unless new migration settings in Stream (Classic) admin center are utilized. The recommended successor service, Stream (on SharePoint), will allow users to record and play videos directly within apps such as Teams, Office.com, Yammer, Viva, PowerPoint, and SharePoint, offering advanced tools for recording videos directly in the camera, searching for videos across Microsoft 365, and managing video files with the same security and sharing controls as the rest of your files in SharePoint and OneDrive. A retirement date for Stream live events has not yet been announced, but users will soon have access to Teams live events with external encoder support, currently in public preview.
If you are affected by these changes, Microsoft recommends that you begin using Stream (on SharePoint), direct your users to upload videos on SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, and Yammer, and put a plan in place for migration.
