Microsoft 365 admin center: Manage ownerless Microsoft 365 groups and teams

Microsoft 365's different collaborative tools such as Teams, Outlook groups, and Team Sites, are powered by Microsoft 365 Groups, which have two roles: members and owners. Members collaborate and owners manage group membership and content. However, tracking groups can become challenging when group owners leave an organization. To manage ownerless groups, Microsoft introduces a new ownership governance policy, which will request active members to become owners. Admins can specify the eligibility criteria and notifications for these requests, and members can accept or decline with a simple email response. This new policy helps automate the management of groups and improve accountability within organizations. This policy is set to release in November CY2023.
