Office Apps on the Web can create PDFs that inherit the source files sensitivity labels

Office Apps on the Web can create PDFs that inherit the source files sensitivity labels

The latest functionality to hit Microsoft 365 Apps is the ability to create PDFs that inherit their source file's sensitivity labels. This feature is available in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint when accessed via web browsers. It should be noted that if a file has encryption in place, it must be unprotected before it can be converted to a PDF format. This update will commence rolling out from May 2023 and will be completed by early June 2023 as part of Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 117594.

For businesses, this means that users who have sensitivity labels configured can continue to apply the same labels to PDFs created in these applications. Additionally, users trying to convert protected Office documents to PDF will be prevented without removing protection. No action is required by either admins or users to enable this functionality.
