How to install WMIC Feature on Demand on Windows 11
If you're a Windows user who needs to continue using the Windows Management Instrumentation Command line (WMIC), this tutorial outlines how to install it as a Feature on Demand (FoD), as a temporary solution. It is recommended to switch to PowerShell or another supported solution in the long term, as WMIC is undergoing deprecation. This tutorial provides step-by-step instructions on how to check if you have WMIC as an FoD, and how to install it if you do not, as well as important information regarding the upcoming disablement of WMIC FoD by default in the next version of Windows 11 and Windows Server later this year.
To install WMIC FoD, go to Windows Settings > System > Optional features > Installed features. If WMIC is not on the list, click "Add an optional feature" at the top of the Optional features tab, select "View features," type in "WMIC" in the search box, select it, and click "Next" to install it. WMIC FoD will eventually be removed in a future Windows release. Review the deprecation announcement and official WMIC documentation for further information.
Make sure to switch to a supported solution for the long term, but for the time being, this temporary solution will allow you to continue using WMIC without issue.
