Use Microsoft Purview to prevent some connected experiences that analyze content
Microsoft Purview has introduced a new sensitivity label setting and Double Key Encryption feature to prevent content analysis by connected experiences. Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 398991 outlines this feature and it will be in Public Preview in early June. General availability will be in late June/early July 2024 via Current Channel v2406+. This feature, which is off by default, enables users to opt for data privacy controls to prevent content analysis within Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, even when the content is stored in Microsoft cloud services like OneDrive or SharePoint. This new feature helps organizations optimize their data privacy needs on a per-content basis using Microsoft Purview's familiar configurations and end-user experiences. To use this feature, users need to configure a sensitivity label setting or protection with Double Key Encryption. The sensitivity label configuration is not available on the Microsoft Purview portal or the compliance portal. Users must use the PowerShell advanced setting BlockContentAnalysisServices with the New-Label or Set-Label cmdlet after connecting to Security & Compliance PowerShell. If you do not need to disable some connected experiences that analyze content in use, no action is needed. However, to use this feature, users must use the built-in labeling client for Microsoft Purview in Office apps, which is not compatible with the legacy Azure Information Protection Add-in.
