Microsoft Intune ending support for Android device administrator on devices with GMS access
In an effort to keep pace with changing business requirements, Microsoft Intune is set to end support for Android device administrator on Google Mobile Services (GMS) devices come December 31, 2024. This move is necessitated by Google's deprecation of Android device administrator management and subsequent removal of management features without fixing or improving them. As a result, Intune will stop providing security fixes, bug fixes, or compatibility fixes for Android device administrator management on devices with access to GMS.
Organizations that currently utilize this management method are advised to stop enrolling devices via Android device administrator and begin migrating to other management approaches. Intune will no longer support users who enroll devices using the Android device administrator after December 31, 2024, and they will not be able to enroll any devices using the administrator afterward.
If you're unsure whether your organization will be impacted, you can check the OS column under Devices > All devices in Intune reporting; any devices running Android (device administrator) will be affected. For more information on alternative Android device management methods and how devices without GMS access will be affected, read the Microsoft Intune blog linked in the post.
Overall, this move is aimed at addressing changes in the Android operating system and optimizing device management on the platform, ensuring greater control over devices and enhancing user and organizational security.
