Microsoft Purview compliance portal: Insider Risk Management – Improvements to “Deleting of SharePoint files/folders” indicators

Microsoft Purview compliance portal has enhanced the "Deleting of SharePoint files/folders" indicators by including events related to the files/folders moved to the recycle bin. In addition to the permanent file or folder deletion events, FileDeleted and FolderDeleted respectively, the indicators now include events for recycled files/folders, FileRecycled and FolderRecycled. These indicators can assist in identifying potential malicious or inadvertent insider risks including data leakage, IP theft, and security breaches.

The Insider Risk Management feature allows customers to create and customize policies based on their individual requirements and governance. It is built with privacy in mind, assuring pseudonymized user data by default, and implementing role-based access controls and audit logs to ensure privacy at the user level. The Microsoft Purview Insider Risk Management correlates various signals to help identify any potential risk and provide necessary insights.

This update was released on June CY2024, and is the general availability release phase, available on web clouds instances such as GCC, GCC High, and DoD. It is a step forward towards more secure data management and privacy protection.
