Stream (Classic) retirement date extended to April 15, 2024
Microsoft has decided to extend the retirement date of Stream (Classic) to April 15, 2024, as communicated in previous message center posts. However, certain parts of the service will be retired earlier unless users take action to migrate their data to the successor service, Stream (on SharePoint). This new service is currently available for all customers to begin using by uploading and managing videos in SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, and Viva Engage directly. Microsoft advises users to review the retirement timeline, prepare for the change, and begin migrating their data as soon as possible.
Despite the extended retirement date, organizations should still prepare for the transition by understanding the retirement timelines and migration process. Users need to be educated on how to use the successor service, Stream (on SharePoint). This post provides links to resources required for the migration, including the migration overview, FAQs, tool known issues, enhancements, release notes, and partners for hire to help with migration and change management. Similarly, the post includes helpful links to Stream (on SharePoint) end-user guide and other relevant information.
Organizations should take advantage of the extra time to migrate their content out of Stream (Classic) and train their users to utilize Stream (on SharePoint) before the retirement of the service on April 15, 2024.
