Microsoft Teams: Explicit Consent policy for Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365

Microsoft Teams: Explicit Consent policy for Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365

Microsoft Teams is enhancing its user consent policy with the introduction of an Explicit Consent policy, which requires participant agreement for all types of user-generated content such as audio and video during Teams meetings. This includes transcription, recording, or Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365. Organizations can enable this policy through the Teams Admin Center, with rollout starting in mid-June 2024 and completion by late June 2024.

Applying the Explicit Consent policy means participants in Teams meetings will be asked for explicit consent before they can unmute, turn on their camera, or share content for transcription, recording, or Microsoft Copilot use. This new policy follows the current experience in Explicit Recording consent and will now support transcription and Copilot for Microsoft 365. Organizations already using the Consent for Recording and Transcription functionality will now have the option to apply this same consent policy to Copilot without Transcription settings as well.

To enable the Explicit Consent policy for your organization, you can turn on the toggle to Require participant agreement for recording, transcription, and Copilot in Teams Admin Center. This latest update to the user consent policy helps ensure that all participants in Teams meetings are aware of how their audio and video may be used and allows them the opportunity to give explicit, informed consent before any such use occurs.
