Upcoming changes to Windows Single Sign-On

Upcoming changes to Windows Single Sign-On

Windows Single Sign-On is set to undergo some changes, especially for those managing Windows 10/11 devices in the European Economic Area (EEA). Beginning in January 2024, users will start seeing a new SSO notice that allows them to choose how to sign in to applications. By March 2024, this notice will have been fully rolled out to both consumers and IT users alike, helping organizations to comply with the Digital Markets Act (DMA).

If your organization is affected, it is recommended that you test this new behavior and familiarize users with the changes ahead of time. This can be achieved by signing into Windows using a personal Microsoft account or work/school Entra ID and then launching an application that supports signing in with those accounts from a device with the region set to a country within the EEA. For more guidance, refer to the documentation at https://aka.ms/sso-info or read the full announcement at https://m365admin.handsontek.net/upcoming-changes-to-windows-single-sign-on/.

By staying ahead of these changes, organizations can easily comply with global compliance regulations and ensure a smooth transition for their users.
