Configuration Change – Microsoft Edge Supported Hardware Requirements

A recent announcement from Microsoft Edge reveals a change in hardware requirements policy. Starting from version 128, Microsoft Edge will no longer support devices without SSE3. The change will take effect from the end of August 2024, and to continue receiving updates, affected users will be required to upgrade their hardware. Critical security updates and other updates will not be received by devices without SSE3. At present, devices without SSE3 will see a banner in Microsoft Edge versions 126 & 127 stating: “This computer will soon stop receiving Microsoft Edge updates because its hardware is no longer supported.” Microsoft Edge supported Operating Systems requirements are reviewed to gain a deeper understanding.

If your organization is affected, you need to prepare by migrating to a device with SS3 so you can continue receiving Microsoft Edge updates. Users will have access to Edge version 128 on devices without SSE3 even though it is not recommended. However, they will not receive any updates, including critical security updates. This hardware requirement modification will only roll out to Stable channels of Edge and its impact will be felt no sooner than August 2024.
