Microsoft Purview | Data Loss Prevention: Restrict Access action for semantic models in Microsoft Fabric (preview)

This post talks about the new feature that is soon to be added to Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies for Microsoft Fabric. The new feature would enable admins to configure DLP policies that can automatically detect sensitive information in semantic models. After detection, access can be restricted from internal users and data owners. The expected rollout for this feature will begin in late November 2024 and expected to complete by mid-December 2024.

Before this rollout, admins could apply DLP policies to Fabric workspaces to audit and notify users through policy tips. After the rollout, admins can configure DLP policies to block or restrict access to internal users or data owners. This feature is especially valuable in situations where organizations have guest users, and proper restrictions need enforcing to safeguard sensitive information from unauthorized access.

Admins can configure this feature by default, and users can review their current configuration to determine the impact on their organization and update any relevant documentation accordingly. The rollout will happen automatically on the specified date with no admin action required before the rollout.
