Microsoft 365 apps: Microsoft 365 Apps and Services update to AES256-CBC for encrypting emails and files with Purview Information Protection

Microsoft has announced an update to its Microsoft 365 Apps and Services, along with Exchange Online and SharePoint Online to use AES256 in cipher block chaining (CBC) mode by default for emails and documents that are encrypted with Microsoft Purview Information Protection. This update ensures that emails and files are well-protected and secure. The change will be in effect starting from August CY2023 and is part of Microsoft's efforts to better secure and protect user data.

To benefit from this update, businesses can adopt the Product PowerPoint Release phase Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel (Preview) and can do so from the year 2023. This update is part of Microsoft's roadmap ID 117576, and it guarantees enhanced cybersecurity with users' data remaining safe in storage and transition.
