Apply Purview Message Encryption branding with DLP policy

Apply Purview Message Encryption branding with DLP policy

Microsoft's Purview Messaging Encryption provides customized branding templates for encrypted emails that are sent to external recipients. This functionality is now being brought to Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policy from Exchange mail flow rule, allowing for additional configuration to control whether Microsoft 365 external recipients can view the encrypted email inline or through the encrypted portal experience using Outlook.

If you're interested in applying custom branding, you can get started with DLP in the Microsoft Purview compliance portal. Existing mail flow rules in Exchange Online will not be impacted, but administrators can now configure new DLP policies in the Microsoft 365 compliance center to apply customized branding templates to encrypted mail, with DLP policy having a higher preference and overruling mail flow rules in this regard.

Note that configuration of the custom branding template still requires administrators to use Exchange PowerShell. To learn more about this process, visit the Microsoft Purview (compliance) Microsoft Learn page. The rollout is expected to begin at the end of July and be completed by the end of August.
