New Outlook for Windows: Auto-reading emails with Microsoft Windows Narrator

New Outlook for Windows: Auto-reading emails with Microsoft Windows Narrator

New Outlook for Windows users will soon enjoy an added accessibility feature that automatically reads out emails thanks to the Microsoft Windows Narrator tool. The feature will come into effect in early November 2024 with no admin action required before the rollout. While the feature will be on by default, organizations should review their existing configuration and notify users accordingly. To use the feature, users will need to open new emails in the new Outlook for Windows and hit the “Enter” key to have the content of the email automatically read aloud by the Narrator tool. This development is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 413429.

Overall, the new feature is expected to enhance accessibility and convenience for users with visual impairments, and will be a useful tool for busy professionals who need to manage email in a hands-free manner. It's worth noting that the rollout will occur automatically by early November 2024, so organizations should prepare and inform their users about the change well in advance to minimize disruption.
